In 1993 Dr. Van Erum Johan founded the Veterinary Poultry practice: GALLUVET.

Galluvet is active in the center and east of Belgium, south-east of the Netherlands and the north-east of France.

In 2016 Galluvet has become a poultry practice with 11 full-time poultry-veterinarians, covering 45% of the Belgian broiler production, 40% of the Belgian layer production ( rearing and laying stock) and 25% of the Belgian broiler-parent stock (rearing and laying stock).

Born in Murcia in 1951, he graduated and obtained a PhD from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the Complutense University. He later completed postgraduate studies in immunology and animal virology at Cornell University in New York. On his return to Spain he joins the National Institute of Agricultural and Food Research (INIA), performing the following functions: Researcher (1978-1980), Head of Research Projects (1980-1985), Head of Department of Animal Virology (1985) -1988), Director of the Department of Animal Health (1988-1993) and Director of the Center for Animal Health Research (CISA) (1993-2002).

Since 2002, he is Professor of Animal Health at the Complutense University of Madrid, teaching and research in the Department of Animal Health of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, as well as director of the reference laboratory of the World Organization for Animal Health ( OIE) for African Swine Fever and African Horse Plague.

He has more than two hundred scientific publications in journals of great international impact, as well as author of several chapters in books of international prestige (African swine fever in Diseases of swine, African horse sickness in the OIE manual, Trends in Emerging Viral Infections of Swine ...).

He is the national prize for ANAPORC 1990 pig research, the International Pork Award "PORCO BRAVO 1999" and the First Prize for Health and Production of Pigs (Animal Production 2000) and animal health award 2007 "The Best of La Verdad 2007".

He has been decorated with the Commendation of Number of the Order of Agrarian Merit (03/12/99) and Food Merit (5/05/03), with the Cross of Military Merit with white badge (03/01/03), for their contributions in animal health and in the control of infectious diseases, as well as with the CESFAC Medal (05/27/09), on merit in animal nutrition and health in the category "Research and Development".

He has recently been awarded the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) Medal of Merit, as an international recognition for his exceptional services to veterinary science (05/24/09), and has been awarded Doctor Honoris Causa by the University of Murcia (04/22/10) as well as named George C. Poppensiek Visiting Professor in Global Animal Health by Cornell University (09/2013).

Since 1990, Prof. Sánchez-Vizcaíno has been collaborating with the OIE and FAO in several health missions to control infectious diseases and technology transfer in various countries in Europe, America, Asia and Africa.

His current scientific interest is in the study of epidemiology and preventive medicine of animal infectious diseases, as well as in the development of new diagnostic techniques, new generation vaccines and new strategies for their control.

He is a Veterinary Doctor graduated from the Central University of Venezuela with postgraduate certifications in the Advanced Marketing Program of the Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez in Chile and in Development of Leadership of the Harvard Business School in Boston, United States.

He has been linked to the Animal Health Industry for 30 years, the last 23 in Pfizer and then Zoetis, in different positions in the commercial and marketing areas, among other positions as Director General of the Animal Health Division for the region of Venezuela, Colombia and the Caribbean, the Director General of the Animal Health Division of South Korea and the Director of Poultry Marketing for Canada and Latin America. Since 2015 he has been the Commercial and International Marketing Director for Zoetis Global Biodevices Division.


He is veterinarian graduated from Universidad Nacional in Costa Rica and after his graduation he worked for 11 years with Coporacion PIPASA in Costa Rica, starting as field veterinarian for Broiler Breeders and Hatcheries, then become Manager of Veterinarian Services and finally served as Assistant of Production Vice-President.

From 2004 to 2007 he worked as Technical Services Manager for Embrex Inc. in the Northern Latin America and Caribbean Region. In 2008 with Embrex Inc acquisition from Pfizer Inc, he becomes Senior Manager Technical Services for Latin America. On 2010 he become Director of Technical Services at Marketing Department, Zoetis Global Poultry and now hold the position of Director Technical Services, Zoetis Global Biodevices.

He has 22 years of experience in poultry industry, half of them on the production side and the other half providing support to in ovo vaccination technology and incubation process.
